This is a personal weblog authored by a family member to honor and memorialize the life of Charles “Chuckie” M. Wilson. It is my hope that the stories and images shared provide an interesting look at a brief period in history and capture a digital record of the glory of the deeds of a brave 22 year old man from Western Pennsylvania and his fellow Army Airman who gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom on a fateful night of April 28, 1944. For all of us, may it evoke a small comfort to know that once we are gone, we will not be erased from the memories of others. For what is remembered lives.
Content has been compiled from the personal photographs of the author’s great grandmother, the mother of Chuckie Wilson, and personal letters she received from the American Government related to his death. These provided a few dates and limited facts related to his war service in Europe. Additional content has been compiled from files, detailed records and first-hand accounts of his mission all now publicly available in the National Archives. Other facts, figures and images are from the enormous digital and searchable public records of the events of WWII now available on the internet to anyone with a computer and curiosity.
